as anyone visiting my blog can see i have a love of flowers, especially roses! they've always been the central theme and inspiration in my art & design work. maybe it comes from growing up in a greenhouse, my parent's business, and studying all the intricate details of the plants, flowers, and leaves. lately i've been dreaming of sugar flowers and cake decorating, and no these are not my latest master pieces, but i'd like to give this a whirl. years ago when i was in college i saw these amazing cakes at copley plaza in tiffany's window - we're talking early 80's. then i married, we bought our first house, and when i was looking through the creative section at my library i stumbled on a cake decorating book unlike any others by cile burbidge, who happens to live right here in my town, and who decorated those glorious memorable cakes in tiffany's windows! i called but she was no longer teaching classes. since then i have taken her books out many times, just to admire the amazing artistry. clearly she has inspired so many others to take sugar paste to a high art, as seen in wedding magazines since.
when i google-d her nothing came up, so this is my small homage to her for having the courage to live her dream, inspire, and share it around the world.
recently i found out that a friend of mine is best friends with cile's daughter - i'm hoping that gives me a little IN so i can finally meet her and talk cakes! i love talking to creative women, especially those who have inspired me! i've been circling around this idea and craft for so long, it's probably the only one i haven't tried - maybe it's time!some more wonderful cake designers, cakegirls, sylvia, and wendy.
