sparrows cottage gifts

look at this lovely treasure trove of paper goods handmade by katie at sparrows cottage. my sisters and i gave it to our mom for her birthday. she has recently decided to start keeping bees, and when we saw this we couldn't resist! it even has sweet tags, so if she starts making honey - can you do that with one hive? she'll be able to label them. every little detail is so wonderful. i especially love the little book of poems about bees and the notecards.

the big sunny day!

it has been a long while getting another post up. we've been busily getting everything together for the sale, and finally after what seemed like eons it went off perfectly! i think it was the first blue sky,HOT sunny day here, but that didn't hamper the yard sale die-hards, they came in a steady stream, and scooped up lots of great cottage style treasures for their homes, and purchased delicious goodies including jill's yummie cookies at mindy's bake sale. fellow bloggers came by for a visit; candy, and nina, and her fabulous family, even her parents! it was so great to finally meet these inspiring women. we plan on this becoming an annual event, so hopefully we'll get to meet even more of you at future "birds of a feather" gatherings.

the wish jars were inspired by the creative kerri. my girls and i made them to sell in support of mindy's non-profit biz, and they made great favors for all to take home. pam's wallpaper pack came in handy for the tags. it seems vintage wallpapers are kind of scarce in this area, so it was nice to have some new goods to use.

thank you all for making this such a fun and memorable event.

open studios

today we met friends at red brick, this very cool, up and coming, community artist building in beverly. twice a year over 30 artists open their studios to the public, and offer many classes to both kids and adults throughout the year. it is in the final stage of construction. they have done a fabulous job renovating the old brick building by retaining the integrity of many of it's industrial elements; old metal doors, huge exposed wooden beams, and exposed floor to ceiling brick supports. all four floors flood with light and creative energy flows throughout the many galleries and studios. the painting on the postcard is so beautiful i just couldn't resist posting it. the style of it is reminscent of monet or o'keefe, don't you agree? believe me, if it were in my budget it would have come home with me, even though my entire house is very vintage - i would have found a home for it.

tag sale

it's really feeling like summer these days. after the endless rain we had the sun is working it's magic and everything is green and blooming. a group of us who are avid flea marketers are gathering our secret (meaning hidden away, out of sight, never used) items for our first ever tag sale. it's been a long time in the making, thinking, and talking - it was time to actually make it happen. the response has been fabulous! there are so many details on the to-do list, but little by little i'm checking them off. one thing i want to work on this weekend is the "birds of a feather" tees, so everyone can wear one on the big day. i'm going to enlist my son to help with this since he just learned how to silkscreen. the girls are helping to make a surprise "wish" item to sell for mindy's organization. if you're in MA on the 10th and you want directions, please e-mail me. hope to see you.
