sweet summer fun

since school got out last friday we've been having a whirlwind of sweet summertime fun! here i am with some of my cali beach babe friends who have come "home" with their families for a visit ~ leslie, (me,) suze, jill, and willow. last night we had a pool party with plenty of laughs, swimming, smores, and guitar hero ~ good ol' fashioned fun! having them home is always one of the big highlights of our summer ~ love these girls and their families!

so, slowing down on posts, but i do have many wonderful things to show & tell...i'm sure the lazy days of summer are right around the corner. for now we're enjoying every sweet drop of summer with plenty of sun, family, and friends!

how are you enjoying your summer?

tagged reflections

a fresh batch of mirrors are in my etsy shop. not sure how they will be recieved ~ it's very hard to sell them on-line as they look so much lovelier in real life! i keep vowing to work on my photo skills ~ a good summer project.

so i've been tagged, and i've been putting it off because who really wants to know 7 wierd and quirky things about me? the thing is i love reading what other bloggers write about themselves, so maybe someone will think i'm wierd enough to read about too...

1. i was raised by nutters, yes it's true. although there were happy times growing up, looking back it was a strange upbringing for sure. one thing that probably influenced me most was that my parents owned a greenhouses and we spent most of our time there playing and helping. my mom's idea of a toy was a cardboard box and scissors, or was it a knife? i didn't get a green thumb until later in life, but flowers and nature are central to my creative inspiration.

2. i'm the oldest of three girls and my sisters are two of my absolute favorite peeps in this world ~ love them! wish denver and san fran were closer!

3. i have two extra ribs, really, above my collar bones on each side~ i'm sure a few of you would have a thing to say about that, but if it's bad please don't tell me. anyway, it's a real pain in the neck ~ literally!

4. i married my high school sweetheart and have three fabulous kids who i cherish deeply. funny thing is i never thought i'd marry him, we're so opposite ~ he's a daredevil and i'm not, he likes crazy loud music ~ i don't, he loves speed ~ i don't, he likes meat ~ i don't, but he was so handsome, and after 20 years we still love each other. maybe opposites really can live happily ever after.

5. i know things, before they happen, but only about me and my husband which is wierd. unfortunately i've known about three accidents that he's been in before they happened, and things about my life i've known...it kind of freaks me out! i wish it would stop.

6. i'm a serial crafter/artist. i've tried just about everything out there. in college i changed my major from jewelry to painting, to fashion. i've had several cottage biz's and jobs; everything from children's clothing, creating porcelain buttons, custom bridal designs, interior design, mural painting, embroidery designer, jewelry designer, paper artist, oh the list goes on and on. i envy people who love one thing and run with it. i think if i didn't find retail so boring i'd have a shop.

7. i have big, thick, curly hair, enough for six peeps. you can tell the weather by my hair; straight ~ cool and dry, curly ~ rain, frizzy ~ don't go there, wavy ~ just right. i'm usually late because of my hair. i still don't know what to do with it. strangers are always touching it, one even took out a pair of scissors and threatened to take it ~ freak!

now i'm on a roll, only seven, but there's so much more...and i'm not going to tag anyone because it's summer, but watch out in the fall!

p.s. yoga was great! loved it. i think i found a new thing. my body loved it too, my breathing was the most noticable thing. try it you might like it too.

oh, and tags came yesterday from jes & melissa - i'll be posting soon!

bits and pieces

a little sneak peek at some goodies i'm sending off to cerri, she and i did a little swaperoo. i'm anxiously awaiting the beautiful tags cerri, jes, and melissa are sending my way. i've seen the goods in their flickr and blog sites - wonderfully creative!

working on some new porcelain flower mirrors. every time i make them i think i'm going to come up with some way to do them quicker, easier...but no. even though they are incredibly time consuming i love making them, and i have to say i'm quite happy with how they came out. they'll be listed in my etsy store tomorrow at noon (east coast time) if you want to take a peek.

tomorrow my older daughter and i are going to mindy's studio for a yoga class - this will be a first for both of us. we're so looking forward to having our butts kicked! i think...until i saw this. i'll keep you updated.

have you heard about this great event coming up in october? melba is hosting a creative weekend for bloggers called justBe...Connected, and lots of blog friends are travelling far and wide to attend and teach. it should be a very inspiring gathering of creative souls! i met her recently and she said there is class space available, and this week she put out a call for vendors.

did any of you see bon jovi on the today show this morning? well, i have to tell you that i am in love with their new single (you want to ) make a memory, beautiful. i didn't know who sang it until a few days ago, and every time it comes on the radio my girlies and i blast it and sing our hearts out. what can i say, i'm a hopeless romantic...

stopping to smell the roses

for months i have been living vicariously through other bloggers and magazines who have generously shown glorious gardens in full bloom. i especially love vintage roses, pink of course! we have had a slow blooming spring here, and with all the rain some have only shown their beauty for a brief moment. here's my little one smelling our new dawn rose. it is supposed to be a beautiful pale pink, but hubby chopped it to a stump with his weed wacker years ago. i was surprised that it had such a will to live, having left it for dead. this year it is proudly displaying it's bold new attitude. it was a bit of a shock to see red - i don't DO red, but today i'm happily living with my red roses that have burst all over the side of the garage (that part was my plan.) as for the red, well, it's a reminder for me to keep an open mind and find beauty in new ideas and all that surrounds me. a perfect metaphor with three teens who are blooming, growing, and finding their own way in this sometimes unpredictable world.

a few more shots of the yard...the parts i left out are the now week 4 of fixing a 50 year old concrete pond ~ our pool, and the various questionable areas that are a blank canvas waiting for me to work some gardening magic! anyone have any suggestions for a long narrow (18in. x 20ft.) sunny garden space that runs along the pool fence?

more rain on it's way...please send sunshine!
off to the studio -

in celebration of my blogiversary i've decided to host a tag swap! i know it's been done many times before, but i for some reason keep missing out on the fun. so, if you have too, here's your chance to have a little creative fun and share a bit of your art & creative spirit with others. i know there are lots of vintage paper & fabric princess' out there! even if you've participated in a tag swap before ~ the more the merrier!

here's the nitty gritty details:
~ tags must be of your own creation and have a vintage inspired vibe.
~ please leave a comment on this post saying you wish to participate by june 8th.
~ be willing to create up to 10 tags (one to share with each participant.)
~ please mail all your tags to me by june 20th along with a pre-paid envelope with the same amount of postage you paid to send them to me (i'll e-mail you my address.)
~ i'll divvy them up and send them on their merry way!

so that's it ~ in true 'birds of a feather" fashion, spread the word and join in the fun! can't wait to see what you all come up with.

p.s. the vintage iron glass' caddy was found on a treasure hunting jaunt with my friend tamsen, she spied it, and let me have it! it works perfectly for my tag display don't you agree?
